John McCain Comes Out Fighting
January 6, 2009 Washington, DC
Senator John McCain (R-Ariz) introduced some bills to kick off the new legislative session. One would expand federal powers to investigate knock-off Native American crafts and art. The bill is co-sponsored by Senator Jon Kyl (R-Ariz). It would increase federal penalties for fraudulent sales of the counterfeit items.

Ashland Oregon: Art Gallery for Idiots
January 5, 2009 Ashland, Oregon
The Associated press is reporting that a gallery owned by a town councilor and his partner held a fund raiser by having people throw shoes at a picture of President George W. Bush. Red paint was spread on the soles of the Birkenstocks, boots and sneakers prior to the toss. According to the councilor's partner, the event was a "statement of solidarity" with the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at the President during a press conference in Baghdad recently.
It is thanks to President Bush, our Armed Forces and the Constitution which they have sworn to protect and defend, that the Iraqi reporter and these "art" patrons are enjoying the freedom to express their ingratitude in this shameless manner.
Annie Lennox sings a bitter tune
On January 3, 2009, ex-Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox led a Palestinian flag-waving crowd in London to protest Israel's military action against the Hamas terrorists in Gaza, Operation Cast Lead. Later in the day, a crowd in front of the Israeli Embassy in Kensington pelted riot police with missiles.
Operation Cast Lead has been implemented to end the rocket attacks by Hamas against Israel. Since 2005, more than 7,000 rockets have been launched into the Israeli town of Sderot. These attacks have nothing to do with a so-called "occupation." The Jewish settlements in Gaza were dismantled in 2005, and the Palestinian Arabs have been in full control of the territory. Where is the outrage from Ms. Lennox when Israel is under daily attack from terrorists?
"For every one person killed in Gaza, they are creating 100 suicide bombers. It's not just about Gaza, it's about all of us," Ms. Lennox told the BBC.
Ms. Lennox is partly correct. It is about all of us. But uniting with a movement that uses children as bomb-wearing weapons of mass murder, promotes religious intolerance, subjugates women, and denies rights to homosexuals, whose legislative body on Christmas Eve approved a new bill "to implement Koranic punishments," including hand amputation, crucifixion and corporal punishment, is the ultimate act of cowardice.
Does Ms Lennox really believe that if she stands in solidarity with Hamas, that they will also stand up for her?
Jiri Potuznik, the spokesman for the new Czech presidency of the European Union spoke in support of Operation Cast Lead. "We understand this step as a defensive, not an offensive action," he said.

ROTHKO September 26, 2008, through February 1, 2009 at the Tate Modern, London: This is the first significant exhibition of Mark Rothko's work to be held in the United Kingdom for over 20 years. Rothko's iconic paintings, composed of luminous, soft-edged rectangles saturated with colour, are among the most enduring and mysterious created by an artist in modern times. His paintings glow meditatively in deep dark reds, oranges, maroons, browns, blacks, and greys. The exhibition also features the Black-Form paintings, large-scale Brown and Grey works on paper, and the Black on Grey paintings, created in the final years of Rothko's life, from 1958-1970.
