Mr. Truffaut became a film critic, and his writings were
published in Cahiers du Cinéma. His ideas
formed the basis for what became known as auteur
criticism, the concept wherein a film would reflect the
imagination of one man. His first feature-length film,
The 400 Blows marked the beginning of the
French New Wave.
